The third Pyramid built by Sneferu (2613-2589), first king of the Fourth Dynasty Old Kingdom. This “Red Pyramid' was considered a success and is the first true Pyramid ever constructed. With a base of 722 ft and an angle of 43 degrees, the Red Pyramid ascends to a height of 343 ft which made it the tallest at that time. It remains to this day the third largest Pyramid in Egypt. It was built from local limestone quarries containing Iron Oxide, which gives it the reddish color from which it gets its name. The Red Pyramid is the second largest Pyramid built at Dahshur along with its sister “The Bent Pyramid. Until recently, this site was most obscure as it is part of a Egyptian military base and was closed to the public until 1997. This is Pyramid number four.
