The great entrance colonnade hall inside Luxor Temple , built toward the end of “Amenophis III's” reign, 1355BC. Cut from sandstone, the massive columns imitate papyrus plants with open umbels. It is uncertain whether the architectural work was fully completed during the life of Amenophis, or whether “Tutankhamun” finished the construction later. Originally, this entrance hall was enclosed at the sides and top, and large clerestory windows were installed to shed light into it. |
